George Harrisons søn debuterer som solist

Dhani Harrison, søn af George og Olivia Harrison, udgiver 6. oktober sin første plade i eget navn.

Albummet, som får titlen ”IN///PARALLEL”, udsendes gennem BMG og kommer efter mange år, hvor Dhani både har arbejdet med at udsende sin fars efterladte sange og komponeret musik til film. Samtidig har han udgivet plader med sit eget band, thenewno2, og supergruppen Fistful Of Mercy.

Bruce Springsteen planlægger intimkoncerter på Broadway

Ifølge New York Post planlægger Bruce Springsteen at tage en pause fra sine stadionkoncerter og optræde i mere intime omgivelser.

Det er angiveligt Walter Kerr Theatre på Broadway, med plads til 975 publikummer, som lægger scene og siddepladser til et engagement på otte uger – fem dage om ugen – på endnu uspecificerede datoer i efteråret, sandsynligvis november og december.

New York Post skriver, at Walter Kerr Theatre har stået tomt siden musicalen ”Amélie” sluttede i maj, og teatrets ejere tilbød Springsteen at låne teatret kvit og frit på den betingelse, at de fik indtægterne fra salget af alkohol.

Endvidere antyder New York Post, at det kommende engagement er en slags prøveballon for et andet projekt, Springsteen arbejder på: en musical baseret på hans selvbiografi ”Born To Run”, som udkom i december sidste år.

Dhani Harrison, søn af afdøde eks-beatle George Harrison, har indgået kontrakt med BMG og udsender sit første solo-album til efteråret.

Tidligere har Dhani, som er 38 år, været medlem af grupperne thenewno2 og Fistful Of Mercy, og har endvidere komponeret musik til flere film, bl.a. ”Beautiful Creatures”, ”Learning To Drive” samt tv-serien ”Good Girls Revolt”.

Albummet, der endnu ikke har fået titel, vil blive fulgt op af enkelte koncerter med Dhani Harrison som solist, foreløbig dog kun i New York og Los Angeles.

Ny cd-boks fra Elvis’ tidligste karriere

De aller tidligste år i Elvis Presleys musikalske karriere bliver nu minutiøst dokumenteret på en ny tredobbelt cd-boks, ”A Boy From Tupelo – The Complete 1953-55 Recordings”, der som titlen siger spænder over de første to år i ”kongens” karriere, fra juli 1953 til december 1955, hvor Elvis skrev pladekontrakt med RCA.

De tre cd’er indeholder alle kendte studie-, samt live- og radiooptagelser – heriblandt flere nyfundne rariteter, som sikkert vil begejstre mere hardcore-fans, bl.a. en koncertoptagelse af “I Forgot To Remember To Forget” fra Louisiana Hayride fra den 29. oktober 1955. Endvidere er boksen forsynet med en bog på 120 sider.

Bag udvalget står den danske Elvis-kender Ernst Mikael Jørgensen, som i mange år har arbejdet med at få Elvis’ kendte og ukendte indspilninger frem i lyset. ”I alle de år jeg har arbejdet med Elvis Presleys bagkatalog har det irriteret mig, at der er så mange der tror, at Elvis bare befandt sig det rigtige tid og sted, og var heldig”, siger han og hævder, at indholdet på den nye cd-boks beviser at ”det handlede om talent, hårdt arbejde og originalitet”.

Ny gammel plade med Neil Young

I 1976 indspillede Neil Young et album med titlen ”Hitchhiker”, og som det så ofte er sket med Neil Young endte albummet ikke ude i butikkerne, men derimod i hans eget arkiv, hvor det har samlet støv indtil nu.

De ni akustiske sange på ”Hitchhiker”, der alle siden har været udgivet i andre versioner på andre albums, blev indspillet solo i Indigo Ranch Studios i Malibu og produceret af Neils mangeårige ven David Briggs. Omslaget blev designet af Gary Burden, som har arbejdet med Neil siden ”After The Gold Rush” i 1970, og nu forlyder det, at Youngs pladeselskab Reprise endelig udsender albummet den 14. juli.
